4920 sprayerBuilding off the platform of the electricangledrill popular 4710 sprayer, John Deere now introduces the new 4920 Self-Propelled Sprayer for growers and custom applicators. With a new 120-foot spray boom, 300-hp engine, 1,200-gallon solution tank and 20-mph top spray speed, the 4920 sprayer brings exceptional performance to the field. The increased capacity and productivity of the new sprayer takes John Deere electricangledrill into all major post-application markets throughout North America. The triangular design of the new boom features round tubing and laser-cut support pieces for consistent fabrication and the strongest welds. The 120-foot boom will be the only option for the 2004 spraying season. Future boom sizes will include 90-and 100-foot models, but will not be available until 2005.

"Because of the PMO requirements, there is an exorbitant amount of valves on the backside of the vats in cheese production," explains Tim Tolley, project engineer at Davisco in Le Sueur, Minn. Besides the cost of the valves themselves, additional controls and other equipment must be capitalized. In Jerome''s case, the additional infrastructure required up to 6 feet of floor space to the backside of each vat. Deadhead piping and other redundant equipment clutter the space.A standard, PMO-approved mix-proof valve clogged up in seconds because of cheese-curd particulate, so Sudmo''s engineers adapted a unit with a 4-inch valve. That posed some problems in sizing the leak-detection port. Ultimately, the port was reduced to 2.5 inches to match the CIP port. A 4-inch valve is coupled to a 6-inch body to accommodate particulate flow. FDA authorities reviewed the design and recommended minor modifications, and a year after the project began, the system was up and running.

2. Automatic slack adjusters (ASA). A self adjusting slack adjuster is a ratchet wrench built into a manual electricangledrill slack adjuster. The ratchet drive rotates slightly during either a brake application or during brake release depending upon the design. When brakes are in proper adjustment, the ratchet decouples. As the lining wears, or as the drum expands, the ratchet drive continue to adjust to combat the additional stroke length. There are two design approaches to brake sensing. One method senses clearance or load sensing and adjusts at the early part of the brake application. The second method senses electricangledrill stroke and adjusts at the end of the brake release stroke. ASAs are mandatory on all new air-brake equipped tractors and trailers in the US.3. Antilock Braking Systems. ABS systems are designed to prevent tractor jackknifing or trailer sluing. Electromagnetic sensors, mounted on wheel ends or inside the axles, sense wheel rotational speed. An electronic control unit (ECU) monitors the information from all the sensors and compares the wheel speeds. As the vehicle decelerates, the ECU senses when any wheel is decelerating too rapidly, indicating that the wheel is electricangledrill approaching lockup. When this happens, the ECU sends a signal to solenoid valves that reduce air pressure in the brake chamber. When the wheel deceleration rate changes, air pressure is restored. The sequence occurs in microseconds. End result is smooth stopping of semi-combination vehicles in a straight line. ABS is now mandated on all new tractors and trailers built in the US.
